Course Description

Poetry Writing

Poetry expresses the deep intuition and heart of language. It makes and translates what is ordinary into vibrant new ways of thinking. In this introductory course, students will explore a toolbox of poetic techniques, locate their own voice as well as write and edit their work. Students will become confident in their ability to write poetry through practice, discussion and feedback from the instructor and peers. This course is open to all level of writers.

Course Details

By completion of the course, successful students will be able to:

  • Identify the vocabulary and terms associated with poetry
  • Write poems across a variety of genres
  • Provide effective feedback to others on their poetry writing
  • Apply poetic text to storytelling
  • Identify poetry's place in literature in the way poetry intensifies language, emotion and representation
